We’re staying at the Tutukaka Coast Motor Lodge, located on Ngunguru Bay about three hours north of Auckland. After a leisurely morning start we drove about 30 kilometers to Whangarei for groceries. The prices were fairly similar to Australia. In other words a lot more than the U.S., but the exchange rate is more favorable here so that helps. In general we’ve found the area surrounding our hotel to be very quiet. It’s the off-season and spring hasn’t sprung yet. That’s ok though. This way we don’t have to share the beach, or the roadside microwave, with many people. Say what?!!
